Going to the gym may on the surface seem like a
place to just get a good workout and get fit. Most people probably do not think
about the other multiple, possibly ‘hidden’ benefits that come from doing
physical activities. When one looks at the bigger picture it can be seen that
it is actually a great environment to find the healthy environment that is
optimal for college life and academics. All the buildings on the college serve
a certain beneficial purpose. Thus, the Student Recreation Center also provides
students with opportunities for students to be in an environment that is
healthy and beneficial. Moreover, according to reachout.com, having physical
activity is very important and beneficial in “helping you [students] to manage
stress” and “clear[ing] your [a student’s] head”. This action of clearing one’s
head is crucial in finding balance with the social and academics. Many students
can testify that all ways having studies on their mind can be draining and
detrimental to their thought process. The brain is also a muscle and if it is
worked too hard and fast it can also get injured. Talking to the student that
was observed says that the reason for going to the gym several times a week is
not only to get physically fit but to clear his own mind form the many
assignments that he needs to accomplish. Furthermore, the SRC is a great place
to be social with others, whether it be talking or just working out with other.
Thus in turn, gives students more opportunity to break away from constant study
and get to relax and form bonds with others. The SRC is ultimately very
beneficial place for him and many other students because it provides the benefits
of promoting academics and social interactions.
